A community rich in meaningful programming for its youth provides encouragement for higher student achievement. Gang violence, low test scores, high drop-out rates, these are just some of the terms that people have associated with Hempstead and the school system. When a school district falls under scrutiny the morale is low, expectations fall and it becomes significantly harder to ask the community for support. Therefore, an upgrade must take place in the community that can positively impact the school.
